Is it me, or is the Atlanta restaurant scene just booming? New, creative chefs are popping up and old favorites are opening new spots. Here are a few restaurants that have opened recently that we are loving, as well as what you should order when you go!

Saltyard

Saltyard opened this summer on the ground floor of the Brookwood condo building (the same building where Watershed is located, which makes us want to move on in!). The patio is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine and your meal while watching the cars go by on Peachtree.

Saltyard serves small plates, so it is the perfect place to go with friends. More people means more plates you can try!  Right now, the fig bruschetta, kale salad, heirloom tomato and ciabatta panzanella, and the shrooms on toast are favorites. And, on the dessert menu, there is something decadent and gluten-free called Chocolate Nemesis. Basically a chocolate lover’s dream. saltyardatlanta.com

Small plates and snacks make for perfect sharing

Caffé Gio

The latest restaurant from Giovanni Di Palma, Caffé Gio will have you saying “oh my gosh” with each bite just like Antico and Gio’s Chicken. Caffé Gio is located off Hemphill Avenue, behind Antico and is part of what eventually will be Giovanni’s Westside Italian Quarterie (the 4th spot, a limoncello bar, will open soon). Right now the Caffé is only open for lunch from 11:30 to 3:30.  

Caffé Gio has plenty of outdoor seating with blue and white stripped awnings. Indoor seating is shared with Gio’s Chicken and features the long, communal picnic tables.

The menu is filled with panini sandwiches. And not the grilled kind with tons of gloopy cheese, Gio’s paninis are served cold and made with the freshest of ingredients and homemade ciabatta bread. They also have salads with grilled chicken or prawns and homemade chicken soup. We think ordering a panini on your first visit is a must. The salads can be saved for future visits (because you will be back!).

Right now, as we wind down tomato season, our favorite panini is the classic caprese sandwich with fresh tomatoes, homemade mozzarella, and fresh basil. The sandwich is finished with a drizzle of olive oil with herbs.

Seven Lamps

Seven Lamps opened last winter in The Shops around Lenox, a spot that was just begging for a new restaurant. And it is in just this kind of restaurant that we like to rest our feet and sip a glass of wine after an afternoon of shopping. The atmosphere is fun inside and they also have a great patio space for people watching.

Seven Lamps does a great job with casual, rustic food. We would steer you towards the charcuterie and cheese plates. They also make a delicious lobster roll and if you choosing seafood, you will have to start with a dozen oysters. We guess that the more people hear about Seven Lamps and the location the more popular it will become. Especially around the holiday season! sevenlampsatl.com
