UAL: The Ultimate Shopping Experience

Great treasures lie within these doors! Be Fearless.

My suspicion is that UAL (United Apparel Liquidators) has three kinds of customers. The first type are those who shop there regularly, whose habit it is to pop by once a week, work the markdowns and get some incredible finds at extraordinary prices. Next, and I put myself in this category, those who wish they could get there more often, but are too busy to do so. We stop by on a semi-regular basis, grab a find or two, smile and are on our way. Finally, and I lump these folks together, are the ones who walk up to the door, start to step in and think, “I don’t
get why I should shop here because it looks mighty unwieldy,” or the shoppers who say, “I don’t shop shop discount, not now, not ever.” Too bad, but I totally understand.

Whichever category you fall in, I thought it would be fun to take one of our favorite stylists, Priya Mani, along with our ace photographer, Bridgett Ezzard, into UAL for an afternoon shopping excursion. Our goal was simple–put some incredible outfits together and have some fun. We didn’t restrict ourselves with a certain price point, so you’ll see ultra-high end, and you’ll see some incredible bargains.

When we were in, ALL shoes were 20% off.

Since I do enjoy shopping at UAL, there are some shopping tips that are worth noting:

  • Tell the staff what you are looking for because they know every nook and cranny of the place. I have heard them say, we just marked down all of our couture 40%. Really?

This outfit is an example of UAL’s couture selection.

If you want help putting together accessories of jewelry, the UAL staff are a great resource.

  • Be specific about what you are looking for; you’ll be surprised what they pull out for you. I was looking for a well made ( i.e, not polyester) dress for my daughter to wear to a bar mitzvah and found one for $40!
  • If you don’t want to spend a ton of money, but rather, just want to spruce up your wardrobe, UAL has great basics, like camisoles and t-shirts, with a huge selection of scarfs, purses and belts.

This Tory Burch handbag is great for the holidays. In UAL, you’ll find many of her dresses, sweaters and blouses.

For a more bohemian look, this belt does the trick. Most of UAL’s belt are priced under $100.

With a quick cameo appearance, I had to show off my recent find–the coat is Vince and the belt cost $49.

If you need a gift, then you’ll never go wrong with their jewelry. Seriously, if you’re in a slump, then go buy a piece of jewelry from UAL.

Priya has captured a great look for holiday parties. The dress is is from Burning Torch at $169. The purse, a sample bag by Olivia Harris at $29. The jacket by Illia adds the perfect accent at $59.99.

A closer look gives us the gorgeous detail in the dress. The cuff adds a nice contrast at only $49.00. Finally, the boots ( aren’t they amazing?) are by Via Spiga and are $139.99. (Yes, they were 20% off.)
