When Jennifer Reyes and Joseph Katz got married recently, they threw an intimate wedding celebration that was undeniably “them.” The couple envisioned a barn wedding because they loved the romantic feel it encompassed. While the venue was a bit of an impulsive decision, it perfectly encapsulated everything the couple stood for—romance, love, heritage and a good time. On March 21, the pair wed, and Lilac Farms at Arrington Vineyards, a barn and grounds nestled between the vineyards and winery in Williamson County, formed a picturesque backdrop. Jennifer speaks to her vision of the wedding: “We wanted to make sure it captured the love we feel for each other. We envisioned string lights, romantic lanterns and candlelit table settings.” Read the couple’s story and see stunning pictures of how their vision transformed into reality.
Friends and a love of food, movies and traveling brought Jennifer and Joseph together one spring day at Germantown Cafe. The connection was instantaneous, and while Joseph recalls that initial conversation, Jennifer can only remember how handsome he looked in his blue suit, which still hangs in their closet today. After intriguing conversation and undeniable chemistry, the couple knew they were meant to be together. Even with Jennifer working odd hours as a reporter for Nashville’s NewsChannel5, they still managed to find time to build a relationship. Jennifer had always hoped for a surprise engagement, and on July 12, 2014, that is what she got. After an elegant dinner at a beachside restaurant, the couple stopped near a cliff by the ocean on Malibu Beach. Joseph proposed to Jennifer and, as you can guess, she gleefully accepted.
The guest list was set to 100, and after watching the pair exchange their vows, the attendees had the opportunity to indulge in a fusion of Filipino and Mexican food. The menu reflected the couples’ heritage, and since they are both self-proclaimed foodies, the couple wanted to “make sure the food was savory and just as memorable as the venue.” During cocktail hour, guests were greeted with empanadas, stuffed jalapeño poppers and a full bar. The dinner menu, with grilled chicken curry pancit, enchiladas del mar, grilled pineapple and mango salad, street corn, and chips and salsa, gave another nod to their Filipino and Mexican heritages.
The elegant decor created a lasting impact while retaining a minimalist sophistication. Jennifer wanted to keep the flowers on the table at a minimum so they incorporated greenery. The light, natural colors helped spotlight the exposed wooden beams and the rustic chandeliers in the barn. Libby Page, the couple’s wedding planner, helped the whole evening come together and made Jennifer and Joseph’s vision of a romantic, French country-style event come to life. In the midst of the evening, Joseph and Jennifer shared their first dance to “Hey Pretty Girl” by Kip Moore–the song always reminded Joseph of Jennifer when he traveled alone for work. After this memorable moment, friends and family joined the couple on the dance floor.
What did Jennifer learn in the process? Get a good photographer! She says of her experience with Joe Hendricks Photography, “Our wedding photographer did an amazing job at capturing the essence of our wedding. He was like a ninja! We knew he was there, but we never saw him. In looking for a photographer, we found Joe was just as passionate about his job as we were about putting our wedding together, and his pictures reflect that. We wanted nontraditional wedding pictures that could stand alone as pieces of art, and Joe delivered.”
