I love bold statements and just seeing this one makes me tear up. Imagine: END BREAST CANCER FOREVER. I can not claim that sentence – I read it as the premise behind the annual Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure, in its 19th year here in Nashville. So, today I boldly rebroadcast this sentiment as I embrace this race and highlight a little pink fashion here at StyleBlueprint – you know, to kick off October right, as it is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The home for this year’s Race for the Cure is Maryland Farms and it promises to be a great race and a fun morning. The race is for runners, walkers and stroller pushers from around the area. Face painting, warm-up Zumba, games, learning stations and the vocals of American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle all ensure entertainment for the whole family. If you have somehow avoided having a dear friend or relative attacked by breast cancer, consider your time limited. With one out of eight women affected, this cancer is a plague and we must unite to END BREAST CANCER FOREVER. I imagine telling my grandchildren, “There once was an awful disease…breast cancer…” Once was. How lovely that will be to say.
Last year’s race raised over a million dollars – with 75% of those funds returning straight into OUR COMMUNITY. By supporting this race, you are becoming a supporter of all women in this community. The money raised helps to fund breast cancer education programs, pays for mammograms for uninsured women, provides transportation for breast cancer patients who live in remote areas of Middle TN and financially assists programs supporting women with breast cancer. Check out this site to see exactly where the money raised last year went in Mid TN: www.komennashville.org/grants/current-grant-recipients
So, have I convinced you? I hope so. Who cares if you have never run or walked a race? It’s only 5K – this is less than an hour of time! If you have never experienced the thrill of thousands of people completing a course together, do yourself a favor and sign up. It really is thrilling. Register today: www.komennashville.org
OK. OK. OK. I know a few of you have plans and can’t make the race. Well, if this is the case please consider a donation (see link above) and showing your pink pride in October. I once was not a big fan of the color pink. But I really dig it now, with all thanks going to the pink fashion movement for breast cancer awareness. It’s time to show your pink and here are some great ways to do so:
