“September is the January in fashion.”
—Candy Pratts Price, The September Issue
I cannot think of a better way to go into the new fall season than by taking two wardrobe staples—in this case, a white shirt and black skirt—and styling them eight different ways. Everyone should have a great white shirt in their closet, and I think most ladies need a black pencil skirt, as well! (Options in gray, navy and chocolate can’t hurt, either.) The best part is that each of these items can be found locally at a variety of price points to suit your budget.
Here, I’ve created eight looks, each completely different. However, if you look closely, the basics are exactly the same: each has a foundation of a white shirt and a black skirt. The differentiation comes with the intentional high/low merchandise mix. Again, great looks and pieces are available at every price level.
I enjoyed creating these looks, and I hope they serve as inspiration to take your wardrobe beyond what’s basic. Enjoy your September!
