When it comes to modern travel, the rules, guidelines, policies and procedures are absolutely overwhelming, and the evolution of travel by air has gone backwards — it’s a jungle out there! Does your credit card offer travel perks?
Before you buy an airline ticket or pay for a trip, check with your credit card company regarding important points such as: If you have to cancel, does the credit card company offer a cancelation policy or insurance? If not, it might be to your advantage to purchase via your travel agent.
Also, does your credit card allow you to check luggage for free or at a reduced rate? Many do. For example, Gold, Platinum and Reserve Delta SkyMiles Credit Card Members may enjoy perks such as priority boarding and the option to check your first bag free on every Delta flight. That’s a savings of up to $200 per round-trip for a family of four. Learn more about the Delta SkyMiles benefits and rules here: www.delta.com
Have you ever wondered how to get complimentary Delta Sky Club® access? One way: Bring a Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express along: americanexpress.com
Check in earlier than you think.
When booking an airline ticket, ask your travel agent what time you should check in at the gate counter. Rules have changed so much! Most airlines now require two hours and reserve the right to cancel your ticket!
Know the rules regarding banked mileage.
When you or your agent is booking travel using your mileage, it is VERY important to know many new rules. In most cases you cannot just cancel and re-bank your miles. There is a possibility that you might lose them if you have to cancel.
Does your car insurance cover car rentals?
Find out if your car insurance covers car rental while you are on vacation, then you will know if you should purchase the rental car company’s insurance.
Always check the Transportation Security Administration website, TSA.GOV, prior to travel to review rules that might have changed since your last trip.
Ask your travel agent about anything and everything that pertains to your vacation. They will help you with everything from proper attire to money exchange and much more.
