Maybe you are waking up and reading this with big plans for Oaks and Derby this weekend. Maybe you’re at the track already, perusing your emails and Facebook in between cocktails and races. Wherever you are—and whenever you’re there—here’s a compilation of some great Derby advice that we have written over the years. Read one, read some or read all, but whatever you do, have a great (and safe!) time this weekend.

What to pack in your purse? You only have the regulated 12×12 inches to pack for the entire day. Here’s a good list of things to bring so that you can last all day and look fresh as a daisy. Print this list out and check it off before you go.
There are two distinct ways of thinking about betting. There’s the handicapper’s way, complete with studying all the stats of every horse. Then there’s the “unprofessional” way, where you rely on your instincts and like certain colors as a means of betting. I choose the latter and it works for me.
We asked the expert, Angie Fenton, who covered Derby for more than 10 years for WHAS, what her secret was to maintaining her stamina. Her best tip: Lay out all your outfits in advance. She has other great advice shared in this article that we all need to follow.

Again, print this sheet out and go over it BEFORE you go to the track. There’s not going to be much reading going on the day after Derby. Plus, a few of these cures involve treatment in advance.
