It is hard to walk into Please & Thank You and only get a coffee. Their chocolate chip cookies sing their siren song to me each time I cross the threshold. There’s just something about them. You cannot put your finger on it, but there is a secret ingredient and owner Brooke Vaughn is not telling.
What she is doing, however, is selling her cookie dough pre-made, ready to slice and bake. I asked her if she would ever reveal the recipe. She smiled, said no and handed me a box of these BIY (Bake It Yourself) cookies.
Good enough! I brought them home and did just that. It was TOO easy.
As you can see above, the baking instructions are specific. The layout is specified. You bake the cookies at 365 degrees. (I bet none of you has ever punched that number into your oven before.) Lastly, you bake for exactly 11 minutes and then let them sit for 10 minutes.
Trying to keep people from eating the cookies right out of the oven was tantamount to riot-level police security.
Worth every minute of waiting.
The Please & Thank You BIY chocolate chip cookies and brownies are sold at their location at 800 East Market for $15.
