It’s fall here, which means ladies all over Louisville are bringing their boots, ponchos, jeans and coats out of summer hibernation and back into the fold. But this season is about more than just the signature clothes; it’s about seasonal makeup, as well. There is no need to completely revamp your makeup arsenal for this season, though. You can make yourself fall-ready with just a change in your lipstick and nail color. They’re cheaper than a pair of Frye boots, and they’ll last until the spring. (A side note: Get the Frye boots, too!)
We asked Joseph’s Salon and Spa, J. Michael’s Salon and Spa, Omagi Salon Spa, Primp Style Lounge and Clique Waxing Boutique to show us their favorite lip and nail colors for fall. They seriously wowed us with their creativity, with all of them taking a different spin on this basic assignment. It goes to show what kind of talent we have in this town!
We visited all of the stylists and took a picture of them, taking a break from making other people pretty, chatting and drinking their favorite seasonal coffee or tea. Enjoy!
Joseph’s Salon and Spa
Joseph’s stylists love the rich, vampy wine colors for fall. They have paired the Aveda Blackberry lipstick, lined with Aveda Purple Sage lip liner as their choice for a bold autumn lip. For nails, they chose a complementary darker shade of Essie’s In the Lobby, which is described as a cinnamon plum.
J. Michael’s Salon and Spa
Stylists at J. Michael’s Salon and Spa went neutral with the nail color and chose OPI’s Suzi Takes the Wheel, which is a muted gray tone. They accented the neutral shade with a long, oval-shaped nail, very on-trend right now, and definitely a change from the short squared-off nail. For lips, they chose a brighter pink/plum shade, which really pops with the gray nails. This shade is Jane Iredale’s Rose.
Omagi Salon Spa
Omagi took the creativity up a notch for their lip pick. They blended two Aveda lipcolors, Blackberry and Sandstone, to create an ombre lip. The darker shade is placed on the outside edges of the mouth and the lighter Sandstone in the middle of both lips. Next dab Aveda Desert Earth Lipglaze over the top. Blend and voila! Ombre highlights for lips. As for nails, they picked OPI’s Infinite Shine color Stick to Your Burgundies.
Primp Style Lounge
Everybody loves a latte right? Primp Style Lounge’s go-to lip color by FACE Atelier is called Latte and blends in perfectly with the OPI Gel Guys & Galaxies. We also love the added touch of the hat for fall.
Clique Waxing Boutique
Clique Waxing Boutique does a lot more than waxing; they also do makeup. They chose a neutral nail that goes with anything, Barefoot in Barcelona by OPI. For their lip, they also chose a color that looks good on any skin tone, Snapdragon by glo minerals.
This advice proves that you don’t always have to go heavy and dark for fall. Blackberry by Aveda is the darkest shade chosen, with the lightest shade being the Sandstone by Aveda. The others are in between, with hints of pink and plum. All stylists recommend that if you do a darker lip during the day, use sparingly and add gloss. For night, let the full rich color show.
