Each year, fall comes around and with it a frenzy of new fashion, makeup and hair trends. They don’t call it the season of change for nothing, after all. In case you are looking for a little change, today we’re highlighting nine beauty trends that are in this fall — and how to weave them into your own beauty routine.
FALL MAKEUP TRENDS
Glitter on the eyes
From the edgy, black glitter seen in the Chanel pre-fall runway to the iridescent stardust seen in the Tommy Hilfiger show, glitter on the eyes is a must this season.
How to create this look off the runway: Using your finger, dab a glittery eyeshadow in the inner corner of your lid and along the lash line. For a more smokey look, layer a dark glitter on top of kohl eyeliner and blend it out.
Dark lips once again are a hit this fall. Lucky for us, their popularity throughout the recent fall and winter seasons have made them more and more wearable. Doesn’t Gigi Hadid’s look in the Puma by Rihanna show make you want to unleash your inner goth this season?
How to create this look off the runway: Find a dark shade that you like and swipe it on. Since black lips aren’t everyone’s forté, we’ve come up with some options that are just as on-trend. Try a merlot or burgundy shade. We like this one here and here.
When is a red lip not in style? Fifty shades of red were seen on fall runways this year: blue-toned reds, vampy reds, orange-y-reds, classic cool reds — whichever shade you choose to wear, you’ll be trending.
How to create this look off the runway: This look is probably the easiest one to create, in reality. Sweep on your favorite shade of red lipstick that you own and call it a day.
Glowing, healthy skin
A healthy youthful glow has taken the stage this year. Could this be a compromising response to the not-so-subtle highlighter and contouring videos that have taken over YouTube recently? Whatever the case, we love any trend with the combination of the words “youthful,” “healthy” and “glowing” in it.
How to create this look off the runway: For your base, use a sponge to pat on foundation and use as little concealer as possible. Apply a small amount of blush (and by small, we mean almost none) on the apples of the cheeks and up towards the temples — then finish it off with highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones.
FALL HAIR TRENDS
You might have seen several celebrities sporting double-French braids recently. We’re talking about pigtails here, people. Whether you call them boxer braids or cornrows, braids that give the appearance of youth and innocence are a big hit this season.
How to create this look off the runway: Check out this tutorial for how to create boxer braids. If pigtails seem a little too youthful for your look, try showing off this trend with just one French braid down the side of your head.
Sleek and polished low ponytail
Pigtails not your thing? Super-sleek low ponytails are just as in style. For a more fun take on this trend, try wrapping a thick black velvet ribbon around your pony. Voilà! Instant sleek, polished sexiness.
How to create this look off the runway: Pull your hair back into a low ponytail. Tie a velvet or silk ribbon in a bow around the elastic — or crisscross it down the length of the pony — and secure by knotting the ribbon in the back every so often. You just might be able to find one of these ribbons in your Christmas gift wrap.
Whimsical hair accessories
Another hair trend this season is whimsical hair accessories. Models rocked hair pieces featuring floral designs combined with metal and jewels. We can’t help but admire the romantic, elegant yet edgy effect of these hair adornments.
How to create this look off the runway: Use a clip-in or headband with jewels and whimsical designs to achieve this look. We love this one.
FALL TRENDS FOR EYEBROWS
When it comes to eyebrows this fall, brush them up, up, up! We love how brushed-up eyebrows alter and lift the angles of a face. That makes it a type of contouring, right?
How to create this look off the runway: Use an eyebrow brush to brush the entire length of your eyebrow up towards your forehead. To keep gravity from doing what it does best, follow with a clear eyebrow gel, again brushing up. If your eyebrows brushed up look a little too unruly, you can trim those hairs down a bit.
FALL NAIL TRENDS
When it comes to nails this season, darker is better. We’re talking about vampy blacks with red, purple, blue and green undertones.
And there you have it — from runway to reality — all the latest trends to revamp your look and rock this season of change.
