Nine years ago, designer Leslie Moore of L. Moore Designs, based out of High Point, NC, helped the original homeowners of this North Wilkesboro, NC, house with all sorts of interior design decisions, beginning at the blueprint stage. When that family moved out, the new owners decided to keep a lot of the same décor, but they then brought Leslie back in to freshen up the house and provide a few updates. “It was fun to see the home have its second act with this young family,” says the designer.
Among the things left alone were the house’s color palette, most of the window treatments and a lot of the furnishings. Leslie incorporated new family photographs in the family room, which already had a cozy vibe with its warm colors. In the master bathroom, she added new wallcovering, lighting and mirrors. “That then led to upgrades in the master bedroom, as well,” says the designer. “We gave that room a new look with custom window treatments, different lighting, and new bedding and artwork.”
“Since I was involved with the planning stages from before, I enjoyed seeing the original details that had a lasting return.”
The kitchen and breakfast area benefited from a “bump-out,” which offers an affordable way to add some additional space. That added space includes a charming banquette area, ideal for large family gatherings. Able to seat six or more, the eating area also features casement windows and casual bamboo blinds. The designer ordered custom stools on casters in an accent fabric, and since they are on casters, they can be pulled up to the table or wheeled away.
The designer was particularly pleased that a soothing dark trim color — Sherwin-Williams Pluff Mud — was kept from the original house years ago, reinforcing decisions she had made with the previous owners. “I loved having the opportunity to continue working on this residence,” says Leslie. “Since I was involved with the planning stages from before, I enjoyed seeing the original details that had a lasting return.”
