June — what a lovely summer breeze she is — calling us to let go and feel the warmth of the sun. Welcome the season in style by putting three fabulous June events on your calendar. We are making everything easy-breezy, as we have selected looks you will love for each event! As Birmingham heats up, so will the pizza ovens at Slice Pizza and Brewhouse for their fifth annual SliceFest. June also brings with it an air of romance, so plan a date with your better half — or your BFF — and enjoy an evening at the Virginia Samford Theatre for a performance of Damn Yankees. The summer months are a great time to get in touch with your inner child, to whom we recommend Slide the City — a 1,000-foot slip-and-slide! A big thank you goes out to the local boutiques featured in this month’s What to Wear for helping us execute these fabulous summer looks. Be sure to visit Ambiance, Judith Bright, Theodora Abbeyluxe, Alabama Outdoors, Snap and Remon’s for these looks and so many more.

“Eat Local. Drink Local. Be Local.” We fully support the SliceFest motto and think you should too! Celebrating five years of music, food, fundraising and the Birmingham community, the Slice Pizza and Brewhouse event is not to be missed. The festival has been sold out in previous years, so grab your tickets early. This year’s band lineup includes The Revivalists, The Soul Rebels, Keller Williams, The Weeks, Vallejo, Break Science, Muddy Magnolias, Riley Green and Baily Ingle. Slice is committed to giving back to Birmingham, and this year’s event benefits The Suki Foundation, a nonprofit created by Brian and Marie Bateh in honor of their daughter who was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome at an early age. The foundation is dedicated to raising awareness and providing early intervention services to children affected by Rett Syndrome and other neurological disorders.
What to wear: The key to great festival style is to be free-spirited with your wardrobe. These three looks from Ambiance in Homewood are comfortable, yet allow for free movement as you groove to the sounds from the stage. Layering is key in achieving these cool looks, and don’t forget to check out Judith Bright for more jewelry options.

Not to be confused with the ’80s hard rock group, this Damn Yankees is the Broadway mega-hit and Tony Award-winning musical. This romantic comedy is centered on a baseball fanatic named Joe Boyd, who trades his soul to play against the New York Yankees. Baseball fans and Broadway lovers alike will cheer as they try to restrain themselves from singing along to “Whatever Lola Wants.” And the Virginia Samford Theatre is a Birmingham treasure that must be experienced, which is why you don’t want to miss this opportunity to see a real crowd-pleaser in a beautiful historic theater.
What to wear: Baseball and ballads call for a knockout look, and we have three for you. Theadora Abbeyluxe is our go-to place for elevating the everyday. Each of these looks has a playful side, which fits perfectly for an evening watching an upbeat, hilarious rom-com.
