With Cinco de Mayo just days away, we thought it timely to bring you our top margarita picks from around town. The fifth of May commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. While apparently not a huge deal in Mexico, Americans have turned this into an annual event celebrating Mexican culture with festivals, parades, and of course Mexican food and libations. There will be plenty of fiestas going on all over town, and certainly at the following locations for Cinco de Mayo 2013!
Taco Mama, located in the heart of Mountain Brook’s Crestline Village, is a great spot to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The food is always fresh and served with a smile. I hear that fresh strawberry margaritas are now available – me gusta! www.facebook.com/tacomama
Little Donkey, located in downtown Homewood, offers authentic Mexican street food and the traditional frozen and on- the-rocks margaritas are made with fresh squeezed lime juice. For a different twist, try the Paloma made with fresh grapefruit and lime juice – bebida refrescante! www.thelittledonkey.com
This downtown hot spot has amazing Mexican fare and the drinks are muy bueno, too! Check out our earlier write up on El Barrio here to learn more about this place and visit their website for additional details. Exquisito! www.elbarriobirmingham.com
Sol Y Luna
Sol y Luna offers a great menu of tapas (small plates) and a unique selection of margaritas. Try the Perfect Margarita made with orange and lime juice, the Passion Margarita made with hibiscus or the Sayulita with blueberries and pineapple. Muy grato! www.solylunabirmingham.com
Another great spot for meeting up with friends, Cantina brings you fresh food and good ole Southern hospitality. Esta agradable! www.cantinatortillagrill.com
Take in the street view while sipping on an ice cold margarita at this casual neighborhood spot, located in Southside. Muy amable! www.rojobirmingham.com
